Clarification Letter on DUA and Save Zimbabwe Campaign to all

MDC Working Contacts Abroad

Dear Colleagues

This is a note to all of you to restate that the Movement for Democratic
Change is a Social Democratic political party which is not a member of DUA and did not send delegates to the DUA meeting in Cape Town recently. The MDC is not sending representation to the November 2002 DUA meeting in Nairobi either.

MDC has its own office in Brussels with Grace Kwinjeh as our party representative there. She is the only full representative of MDC right now any where in the world. Some of you have been asking Headquarters what MDC's relationship with DUA and with Save Zimbabbwe Campaign is. The answer is that MDC is not a member of DUA. MDC recognises that the Save Zimbabwe Campaign is an autonomous body which has a programme of its own. Save Zimbabwe Campaign has no authority from MDC to carry out work on behalf of the MDC. MDC has not authorised Save Zimbabwe Campaign to carry out any work for MDC. MDC works on its own programme through its own structures at home and abroad.

Save Zimbabwe Campaign has its own offices in different parts of the world carrying out its own programme which comes from its own process. This process is not an MDC process. It is also not acting on behalf of the MDC. Like all other organisations that are engaged in issues to promote democracy, the rule of law and good governance in Zimbabwe, their programme, like ours independently runs on its own agenda to highlight these issues in Zimbabwe.

The MDC is sending its own delegation to Brussels to the ACP - EU meeting at the end of November 2002. The delegation is made up of Mrs Lucia Matibenga the MDC chairperson for women and myself as the MDC Secretary for International Affairs. Mr Moses Mzila Ndlovu is attending as the MDC Parliamentary representative for Zimbabwe. He is also the shadow minister for Foreign Affairs in MDC. His Brussels appointments like ours are being made by Grace Kwinjeh our EU representative.

I hope this clarifies your concerns.

Please refer back any questions for more clariity if this is still not clear.

Best Regards

Sekai Holland

MDC Secretary for International Affairs
