Dear Citizen of the world
This is an invitation from the Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA) for you to visit our pages on the situation in Zimbabwe at www.misa.org/zimprotest and do your bit for that embattle country.
While we understand that not everybody has the time to deal with matters of this nature, we make a special plea that you spend a few minutes on this.
However, if it is beyond your time limitations, perhaps you could forward this in an email to someone you think will have the time. We will make a difference - the question is 'how much of a difference' and that is dependent on you. If your organisation has mailing lists or discussion forums/ chat rooms on a web site, we invite you to pass on this information or create a link to www.misa.org/zimprotest.
As you will see when you visit www.misa.org/zimprotest, a number of features still need adjusting and we are working on that right now.
If you are sitting far from Southern Africa and are wandering what does this have to do with you, rest assured it does. It is not purely about freedom of expression. Freedom of expression/ speech/ press is being curtailed because there is a need to prevent people from getting information. This kind of environment is the seedbed for corruption, human rights abuses and excesses in the application of national laws. If you live in a country that with a strong social responsibility programme, you are paying taxes towards this programme. In the absence of freedom of expression, your money will be squandered, unless we have an informed society that knows its rights and will demand accountability. So, let's help Zimbabwe by allowing its citizens the freedom to be informed. www.misa.org/zimprotest is yours to help Zimbabwe accomplish that.
Finally, a lot of you are familiar with the expression "a luta continua" (the struggle continues). However, there is a refrain to that 'war cry' which validates it. To continue struggling makes no sense unless you are working towards something. The refrain is "a Victoria e certa!" (victory is certain!). It is with that in mind that we are calling on you to join this protest. We are certain of a victory for the people of Zimbabwe. Our solidarity is unwavering. Yours, is the backbone that will carry it through.
Please proceed to www.misa.org/zimprotest.
Thank you.
