MDC outraged at EU's lukewarm approach to Zimbabwe Crisis
The Statements issued by the EU, G-8 and the British Government have one thing in common: They reflect that the International community does not care a damn about the suffering the people of Zimbabwe are being subjected to by the Robert Mugabe and zanu-pf Regime. In fact, the EU has totally failed or refused to condemn the brutalities Mugabe's armed operatives which they are inflicting on the peaceful demonstraters through out the county; that they have also failed to recognise the wide-spread highly unjustified arrests and violent brutalities meeted out on innocent civilians. They have sought to create the impression that both the government and the MDC share the blame for the mayhem in the country.
On the other hand, the G-8 Summit summary statement has relegated the Zimbabwe situation to a meaningless few sentences at the very end - reflecting their lack of interest in what is going on, as a result of which they have given comfort to Robert Mugabe and his crew of murderers, that they can do as they please;
And finally, Mr Jack Straw's Statement not only reiterates the EU's
endorsement of shared responsibility between zanu-pf and the MDC for the current crisis in Zimbabwe, but eloquently underlines the "change of Heart" in the British Government's approach to attempts to resolve the problem of Zimbabwe which they clearly know to be the fault of 23 years of governmental mismanagement and corruption.
Only last night three University of Zimbabwe Students
were killed by Mugabe's security agents, MDC activist Tichaona Kaguru died as a result of injuries sustained from torture and beatings again in the hands of Mugabe's security agents.
We, the people of Zimbabwe and, in particular, the MDC are able to take comfort from the recent article by Robert Rotberg (the
renowned Political Scientist at Harvard University) who has eloquently and dispassionately, placed the whole crisis in an objective context. We applaud his courage and wisdom, and the people of Zimbabwe will be forever grateful for adding his lonely voice on their behalf.
We also applaud the action taken by Africa Progressive leaders
among leading African American organizations, trade unions,
church and advocacy groups who have written to the Mugabe regime to oppose his political repression.
Yes we know that there are many others out there, who continue to pray for our leader Morgan Tsvangirai and the MDC leadership for them to have the strength and courage to go through these trying times.
All this, should remind us that,
WE, THE PEOPLE OF ZIMBABWE HAVE REALLY NO CHOICE BUT TO BE OUR
OWN LIBERATORS !
