Lupane MP Mpala Passes Away
David Mpala the Member of Parliament for Lupane has died. He passed away last night at St Luke's Hospital in Lupane. Mpala was born on 1 December 1955 in Lupane. A retired member of the Zimbabwe Republic Police, Mpala's health deteriorated over the past year after being tortured and stabbed by Zanu PF supporters.
In April 2000, while campaigning for the Lupane parliamentary seat Mpala was abducted and severely beaten by a group of about 40 Zanu PF supporters. On 13 January 2002, Mpala was abducted by a group of 20 Zanu PF supporters at Lupane Business Centre and dragged to a bush where he was brutally assaulted and stabbed on his chest, back and stomach. He never fully recovered from these injuries and his health deteriorated until his sad death yesterday.
We mourn this hero of the struggle for peace and justice in Zimbabwe. His death will inspire us to fight harder to fulfill his dreams, as we know that the darkest hours comes before dawn.
Burial arrangements will be announced soon
May David's soul rest in eternal peace
