MDC Gutu North candidate survives ambush

Crispa Musoni, the MDC candidate for Gutu North in the forth coming by election, was last night saved by the police from imminent attack by ZANU PF supporters who tried to block his car.

The incident happened at around 21.30 hours when Musoni who runs some business at Mupandawana Growth Point, was driving home after closing his shop. ZANU PF supporters driving in three trucks written "Matabeleland South Province, Bulilimamangwe" blocked Musoni's vehicle at the Mupandawana turn off and demanded that all the people who were in Musoni' car should come out. Musoni and his group, sensing danger, quickly made a u-turn and drove back to the shop from where he alerted the police, who quickly came and escorted him to his home.

When the police had left Musoni's homestead, a group of about 10 unidentified persons came to the homestead and threatened to attack the family. The group only left after Musoni had threatened to shoot anyone who came into his yard.

We commend Gutu police for acting swiftly to avert violence orchestrated by the Zanu PF machinery and encourage them to maintain the standards and ensure a violence-free election in Gutu North. The incident comes as no surprise as we are now fully aware that this is the way Zanu PF behaves in any election where it senses defeat. It is our hope that SADC, the African Union and United Nations leaders take note of the Zanu PF regime's failure to reform as demonstrated by its unquenchable thirsty for blood.

We remain hopeful that the people of Gutu North will be able to see for themselves who the monster is and vote accordingly.
